25,524 people signed last year’s 2 Degree-petition in to add more public pressure before the climate negotiations last December in Copenhagen. It didn’t work out all that great, unfortunately, but it was a good effort nevertheless.

When “Like” goes horribly wrong

Every newspaper has by now learnt the importance of social media. With every story you get the mandatory share buttons for all the different sites. Perhaps they should use it with care though, especially Facebook’s “Like” function. It’s perhaps not a good idea to add that as default on every article. Here’s a tip I’m offering for free:

Add a check box for manually adding the Like button to your articles when they are published.

Unless of course, you want people to add a thumbs up and like “Homeless man set on fire“.

Suspicious Message!

I live an exciting life. I get sent very suspicious stuff. Well, it was the first time today that avast! gave me this message:

“Very suspicious extension of attachment”

I don’t know why, but it made me giggle a bit. Perhaps I need more sleep.

On a slightly related note, McAfee has turned into a virus.

Peter Steele of Type O Negative dead

Peter Steele, Type O Negative

Yet another musician has now unfortunately left us. Reports say that the metal band Type O Negative‘s frontman Peter Steele has died of heart failure at age 48.

Type O Negative released their debut album Slow Deep and Hard on Road Road Racer records in 1991. The band’s latest release, Dead Again, hit the stores in 2007.

An official statement has not yet been made but has been announced on the official website.

“The forums have been re-opened. Please play nice and expect statements from the band and family later today. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Volvo turns Chinese as Geely purchases the company from Ford

At Sunday afternoon Ford and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group signed the contract about the sales of Swedish car maker Volvo Personvagnar. Representatives from both the Chinese and Swedish government were present when Li Shufu (the founder of Geely), Lewis Booth (Ford’s Chief Financial Officer) and Stephen Odell (President of Volvo Cars) held a press conference.

The price tag for Volvo PV ended up at $1.8 billion, far from the $6 billion Ford paid for the company in 1999.

The Volvo headquarters will remain in Gothenburg, Sweden, along with research and development. The fabrication will not move from Sweden and Belgium, but a Chinese Volvo plant might be considered – but only for cars made for the Chinese market.

“My belief is that the factories in Gothenburg and Gent will remain for a long time. This will not change because of the new ownership.”, Geely’s Li Shufus. “I want to emphasize that Volvo is Volvo and Geely is Geely – Volvo will be run by Volvo management.”
